The level of transparency exhibited by this supposedly "Change" city council has been disappointing and the increase in closed sessions worrisome.

Having worked with Clr. Stolte on a number of Seniors, Housing and Transit issues I have always found her integrity and commitment to be of the highest standards.

When it comes to secrecy and internal division and sniping on council, one is tempted to ask Qui Bono?

I had hoped for better.

The most disappointing thing about all this is the failure of this Council, with the exception of Shawna Stolte and perhaps Lisa Kearns, to live up to our expectations for transparency, accountability and active partnership with Burlington's citizens- arguably the three most important components of "open government". I suppose that I should be less critical of Councillor Galbraith. I think his only campaign commitment was to fill the chair vacated by Rick Craven. Nevertheless, the complaint against Shawna Stolte is highly revealing. It exposures deep divisions amongst Council and speaks to an environment of workplace toxicity that was a frequent complaint of the current mayor, prior to her election. How different things are from what we thought they would be.
