Ford reminds me of Trump - build a tunnel/build a wall. His line about homeless people and the language he used sounds like Trump too. The worst part, just like it is in the US, is that he still has so much support and that citizens vote for tris.

Did you even read the article you quoted? It genuinely appears like you mis-read the headline and never even bothered with the text.

Staff at private daycares who were not part of the $10 a day program never had the $2 increase in pay in the first place. They aren't losing anything. The only funding that's being re-allocated is for subsidized daycare - which from now on will only be available at a $10/day daycare center (which is >85% of them in Ontario).

This change is clearly designed to encourage the last remaining private hold outs to get with the program and enroll their centers in $10/day so that their kids and employees will both benefit. It is a positive change that will strengthen the program and EVEN the playfield (not create a two tier system like you say). Right now we have a two tier system. Right now, if you can't find a spot in a $10/day center you are stuck paying way more. This change will bring us closer to 100% participation from private daycares because if they continue to hold out they will lose more children.

More daycares in the program means more employees benefitting from the pay raise as well. This is a welcome policy change to push stubborn daycare owners who have up until now shunned the program (for various self interests) towards adopting it.

Really great episode. I think it’s clear that NDAs should not be allowed to be used period, and they are being abused by, frankly, abusers.

Next you should perhaps ask our mayors their thoughts on this legislation - and not in supporting it only as virtue signalling meaninglessness but actually saying yes everyone in my municipality - council members and staff - should be allowed to speak out against harassing behaviour by anyone. And yes, the public also has a right to know what sort of behaviour is happening and reports on complaints should not be hidden.

I’m guessing that if by some miracle legislation is enacted, it will say it is only for new cases going forward. As your guests pointed out, it’s very likely that the will isn’t there to fix this by those who have themselves made employees sign NDAs to cover up their own bad behaviour.

Kudos to Jennifer for never giving up and to Julie for her tireless efforts with her group to get rid of NDAs everywhere. They are essentially a licence to commit abuse. The other major problem with them is that it means that all other and future employees are not protected from abuse by these same abusers who often do this over and over again, because the prior victims can’t speak out and warn everyone else. And of course, the abusers get to stay and carry on as usual.

I’d say it’s the latter, insider bag men and rot to the core. Let’s not forget the Ontario Place and Science Centre corruption now being looked at by the Attorney General. On and on it goes. It’s bigger and wider than we yet know, but it’s cracking. Keep digging, journalists!

Months after calling and emailing Burlington MPP Natalie Pierre, asking for a response from her on the whole greenbelt corruption, I still had zero response. She then last week sent me a mass email her office sent out blathering on about something else entirely. So she got my emails, put me on her mailing list, but never responded. I replied and called her out yet again.

She sent a response, finally. To say it is lacking is an understatement. I’ve sent you a copy by email.
